Benin’s Telecom Authority ARCEP implemented a change in the country’s telephone numbering system on November 30, 2024. The change consists in adding digits 01 to all existing phone numbers.

    Examples:

    • Old landline in Cotonou 21 xx xx xx becomes 01 21 xx xx xx
    • Old mobile number 6x xx xx xx becomes 01 6x xx xx xx

!!! Note that the newly added digits are to also be dialed when calling Benin from abroad. In other words, the initial 0 is not a national prefix, but a part of the phone number.

Read official ARCEP announcement, in French.
