Calling a Weird Number

I’ve been trying to contact my friend through her cellphone for over a month, but I can’t seem to reach her. She is currently living in Egypt, and I’m in the USA. Her and I both have long distance international calling, so we should both be able to reach one another…and yet we cannot. I’ve been dialing her number 011+20+(016)xxx-xxxx because she has a cellphone. However, my call never gets through. She has tried calling me using the number 001+(717)xxx-xxxx to reach my cellphone, but it doesn’t work either. I’m thinking that it might be her phone because it has an area code (016) which I don’t recognize; however I’m not sure if this is the case. Or maybe it’s because her phone is a Motorola and mine is from Verizon; again I’m not sure if this is the case. If anyone could help me on this problem, I would much appreciate it.

You should drop the zero before 16 (zero is used when dialing within Egypt): 011 20 16 ??? ????. 16 is not an area code – Egypt cell phones do not use area codes, they all have the same dialing format across the country.

Why your girl can not reach you I don’t know – the dialing sequence 00 1 717 followed by the US local number is correct.
