We have a U.S. cell phone (capable of being used in Europe). However, we have received conflicting information regarding making calls while in different countries. Some have told us to dial as if we are still in U.S. Is this correct? In other words, how do we call back home to U.S., AND, how would we make “local” calls while in Europe. I’m assuming we do the same way that someone from our “host” country would do; ie, when in Germany, call U.S. just like a local German would do. Thank you.

    Hello,

People will CALL YOU as if you were in the US, even people from the country you will be in. As for how you will be making calls – you are right, you will use the dialing procedure of the country you’ll be in. For example: to call the US from any European country you will dial 00 1 + area code + 7 digit number.

    I hope this helps.

Heads-up

Some information on these forums could be outdated - countries change their numbering plans periodically. We recommend using our top menu to double check the correct instructions for dialing to a specific country.
