I know that most people would like to place free calls over IP. The thing is calling a regular phone number can not be free. You can make free calls from smart phone to smart phone or from computer to computer, but if you want to call a regular mobile number for instance there are charges you can not avoid. There are other good services you might want to check out such as EnjoyPrepaid.com or ClonCom.com.

A popular app for placing free calls between smart phones is of course Viber.

Unlike Argentina, most countries use geographic area codes ONLY for landline telephone numbers. Ukraine is no exception so I am positive that no area code is needed for this Ukraine mobile number. Maybe the person you are trying to call changed their telephone number and now someone else has it? Just a suggestion.

My apologies for the late reply.
When dialing internationally from Argentina you should use 00 followed by Ukraine’s country code 380 and then the phone number. In this particular case you should leave out the starting zero in the Ukrainian mobile number you have: 00 380 665845???.

Hi Pete. The Canadian number has just one starting 1 (not 2). So you would have:
0011 1 followed by 10 digits starting with the 3 digit area code. When dialing from your mobile phone you may also use + instead of 0011.

If you have 11 digits that means you already have a complete number – if it’s a landline it has the area code included and if it’s a cell phone it doesn’t need an area code. So just dial 011 86 followed by the 11 digit number. More info below:

1. The US exit code (011) is definitely not needed when using your US cell phone abroad. An exit code is however needed to dial to another country. For example, all European countries use 00 instead of 011.

Indeed, your phone becomes a local phone for calls made to local numbers so just dial what locals dial.

2. All sources are correct: the plus sign replaces 011 for international calls originating in the USA. Therefore you may use + or 011 (never both). Landline phones do not have a + key so you’d have to use 011.

Skype is also a VoIP service (Voice over IP). You can use Skype in two ways:
1. To call from computer to computer, in which case it is important to have a good broadband connection on both ends.
2. You can use Skype to call a regular telephone number (like a cell phone for example). This time you would pay for the call.

There are other similar services. Over the years we have recommended Rebtel for quality service and reasonable rates. Both services are OK to use.

Make sure that, before leaving Saudi Arabia you talk to your wireless provider and ask them to activate your roaming service (if it isn’t active already). Also it would be a good idea to inquire about rates for placing/receiving calls while in Europe, and for sending messages.
