    Hello,
I am not aware of Russian phone numbers that can not be reached from abroad (this doesn’t mean they don’t exist). If you want me to take a look at this number and perhaps dial it to see if it goes through just reply to this message or send it to me using the contact icon above.

I use a different type of smartphone. First of all you should have an app installed on your iPhone for Skype or Vonage or both. In order to call you need to connect to a WiFi connection likely provided by the hotel you’ll be staying in. Once connected open one of these apps and place your calls via the WiFi connection.

My smartphone has a Settings option where I can turn on or off both WiFi and carrier provided Internet connections. So if you want to make sure you’re not going to place the call using the carrier provided data plan look for the option to turn it off.

Not sure why you’re trying to call in Airplane mode. As far as I am aware, even if you have a subscription to an inflight WiFi plan they don’t allow calls using Voice over IP.

    Hello,

These services use a similar technology so both would work well. What matters is that you have access to a fast Internet connection. If the connection is not good and/or the wifi signal is weak call quality can be a nightmare.

    Hello,
It wouldn’t make sense to have an incomplete mobile number since Russian mobile numbers (just like Portugal ones) can only be dialed using their full “version” regardless of where the call originates. So maybe what you have is a fixed local number, but in this case you need to know what city you’re dialing in order to find its area code.

    Hello,

China uses 11 digit mobile numbers so the first number would be your correct version. To dial from the US add 011 86 to it.

    Hello,
I apologize the the late reply.
Is this a Saudi cell or is it a Philippines cell located in Saudi Arabia?

Saudi Arabia uses 9 digit cell phone numbers starting with digit 5 so, to dial a Saudi cell from the Philippines you would use 00 63 5???? ????.

If you are trying to call a Philippines cell do not add any area code to the number.

    Hello,
I apologize for the late reply. The number you have is an Israeli mobile phone – if you scroll towards the bottom of our page on how to call Israel you’ll find this code. What you need to do is drop the starting zero and dial 011 972 54-743-44xx. I have replaced the last 2 digits with xx because your friend might not want to share their number on a web page.

Hello. Toll free numbers can generally be called only within the country where they are registered. It doesn’t however hurt to try. To call add 00 to this number. It doesn’t matter what phone you are using to place the call.

    Hello,
This looks like a Beijing landline. Difficult to say if your number will show – it depends on what type of technology they are using.

    Hi Angela,
You should be able to reach your friend’s mobile phone by dialing 0668478xxx which is the national dialing format in France. The call might also work using the international dialing format: +33 668478xxx.

For your friend to reach you they should dial your number as if you were still in Canada: 00 1 4164007xxx.

    Hi Valerie,

    1) When you are in the UK with a US cell phone that uses an international plan from your US carrier you can dial UK cell phone numbers by using UK’s national dialing sequence: a leading zero followed by 10 digits, the first one being seven: 07xxx xxx xxx. You can also try using +44 7xxx xxx xxx (this is what a UK cell number looks like when dialed from any country).

    2) If you would like to call a US cell phone also located in the UK use +1 or 001 followed by the area code and 7 digit US local number.

Let me know if you have other questions. See more info on how international roaming works.

    Hi Caroline,
Unless you provide more detailed info I don’t have any suggestions. I am not aware of any major issue with UK phone numbers so either you are dialing the wrong numbers or the phone you are trying to contact has an issue.

    Hello,
Saudi Arabia uses 8 and 9 digit telephone numbers for fixed and mobile telephones (that would be the number after 966). You have 11 digits which means that you have a special number of some sort (such as VoIP or Personal Communications). These are not assigned geographically so you won’t be able to find its location.

    Hello,

Our website’s main pages show you just that: how to dial from the US to all countries. There’s also a comprehensive list of country codes, exit codes and national trunk codes at https://www.howtocallabroad.com/codes.html

Not sure why you need parenthesis, but we don’t use them.

    Hello,

Why are you dialing 661? Is this a California phone number? If so, you do not need to dial 011 507 – just dial the US number as you usually do. If the person carrying the phone is traveling abroad you will be connected automatically to wherever they are located provided they have a roaming plan activated.

in reply to: contact number format that works anywhere #2793

The international dialing format that generally works when using a cell phone anywhere is: + followed by country code and phone number. For example, a US number would look like: +1 ??? ??? ????. You have to literally add the plus sign before 1. This way, whenever you are in a foreign country the plus sign replaces the international access code for that country. This should also work for local and state to state calls, although I am not 100% sure it will work with all carriers so you’re gonna have to test it before editing all the phone numbers in your address book. Also make sure that, when dialing +1 ??? ??? ???? for a local call that would otherwise require just the 7 digit local number, the carrier recognizes it is a local call and charges it accordingly.
