    After doing some more research I have found that new Cambodian mobile phone codes have been assigned and these are 9 digit and may start with 8 as well so your son’s number is likely correct. May I have the complete number again – I will try to dial it to see what happens.

    I have also updated our main page on calling to Cambodia with the new mobile codes.

    Hello,
    You are correct, Cambodian cell numbers are 8 digit and start with either 1 or 9. Moreover, no landlines in this country start with 8 so this is not a landline either. The only possibility that comes to mind – cell phone numbers in neighboring Thailand are 9 digit and start with 8. This may sound absurd, but maybe your son uses a Thai cell with some kind of roaming agreement. In this case you would call 011 66 88 and so on.

    Hi Toasty. Yes, you use the same dialing sequence. Normally, when you are in the UK and she is abroad you can text her by using the regular UK number: 07 etc. However, most European mobile networks are set to also work with the international codes added, even when dialing within the UK. However, when you are both outside the UK, using +44 (or 0044) and dropping the starting zero become mandatory.

    If the same mobile number receives messages from your cell, but can not be called using the same mobile phone I believe it is likely because your calling plan does not allow dialing internationally. Try calling your wireless provider and ask them about this.

    Again, if you send me the number via the Contact page on this site I will try to dial it to see if I get the same “service non disponible” message.

    Hello,
    The first dialing sequence is correct: 00 44 7??? ??? ???. If you are certain that your landline works for international calls (sometimes you need to activate your international service by calling your phone service provider), then there’s likely a problem with this phone you are calling to. Are you getting any message?

    If you want, I can try dialing the UK number to see if it works. Then we’ll know if the problem is on their end or yours.

    Hello,

    If you have 13 digits for a Mexican phone number with 044 in the beginning you will have to leave out 044 which is a code used for calls to cell phones within Mexico. To the remaining 10 digits which is the actual Mexican phone number (area code + local number) you will add the following for calls from Australia: 0011 52 1. Here’s why:

    -0011 is the code used to dial out of Australia (you can also use the plus sign here);
    -52 is Mexico’s country code;
    -1 is a digit that must be added to call Mexican mobile phones from outside Mexico.

    The same rules above apply for texting to Mexico. I am not 100% sure that adding digit 1 after 52 is required for texts also (try texting without it if it doesn’t work with it).

    The same rule applies for calls from the US to any US cell traveling abroad. However, for calls from Europe back to a US cell you must add 00 to the US number: 00 1 ??? ??? ????.

    If you all have cell phones ask your wireless providers about roaming costs for texting within Europe. I believe the cost would be around 50 cents per text. There are cheaper options with third party services. However, it is more complicated because if you choose to use a third party service such as this http://www.onesimcard.com/ you will have to spend some money first. To be more specific, you would at least have to buy one of their plans with a SIM card included for use in Europe. You would also have to make sure you have a GSM or 3G wireless phone (unless you want to buy a new one).

    This is a German cell number. From France you would add 00 to it: 0049…, regardless of the German phone’s location (Berlin or two blocks away from you).

    Hello,
    Nigerian landlines are 8 digit while cell phone numbers are 10 digit. Therefore your having a 9 digit number doesn’t sound right. What is this number you have? Is it a fixed or mobile number?

    Our page on calling Nigeria may also provide some helpful info:

    Hello,

    1. Correct:)

    2. While in France you will use: 00 1 ??? ??? ???? to reach US phone numbers.

    3. France cell phones are 9 digit and start with either digit six or seven. In the beginning however there is a zero when dialing within France: 06?? ??? ??? or 07?? ??? ??? (so 10 digits total). This is what you will dial.

    4. Same rules above apply for calling French landlines: 0 followed by 9 digits (although the first digit after zero isn’t six or seven anymore). France has a closed numbering system which means that they do not use area codes. In other words, you will dial the same number across France.

    5. People in France would call you as if you were in the US: 00 1 ??? ??? ???? (they might not like it since international charges apply).

    Hello Jennifer,
    You are supposed to drop the zero if you have a zero before 4. Australian cell numbers dialed within Australia have this national format: 04???? ????. When calling from the US you leave out the zero: 011 61 4???? ????. You don’t drop any digits after 4. And yes, you should have 9 digits for the cell number (including the 4).

    Try to find a different number on their website. These 08 UK numbers do not generally work when called from outside the UK. Here’s a page on their website with UK locations – click on a location and you’ll be provided a regular landline number to call in most cases:

    Hello,
    Your observations are incomplete. Please be more specific: what country are you trying to call? I understand you are in the US.
