Chile Telephone Number Portability fully implemented

Thank you Telemensajes for posting the above message. What the post says is that on September 5, 2016 telephone number portability was fully implemented in Chile. The process started in late 2011.

-Area codes are now part of the national number; you can no longer dial local calls without adding the area code.
-All Chile phone numbers comprise 9 digits
-Phone numbers can be ported between different providers, techonologies (fixed to mobile and viceversa) and also between regions of the country.

As a result of implementing phone number portability not all mobile phone numbers begin with 9 now (when porting a geographic number to mobile for example). On the other hand, since not many people port from mobile to landline, most phone numbers beginning with 9 are still mobile phones.

When required, dialing a ported number is followed by a short announcement before the connection is made. The goal is mainly to avoid unwanted charges.

There is no need to pause between exit number and the rest of the phone
number. Dialing the exit code isn’t like trying to access an outside line,
it is more part of the number you wish to dial. So just dial it all at once.

    Hello,

1800 numbers in any country are issued for incoming calls originating within the borders of that specific country. 1800 number owners have the option to allow incoming calls coming from abroad. So, to call a US 1800 number from Australia try dialing: 0011 1800 and so on. Note that, in case it works your call will not be free. If it does not work try using 880 instead of 800: 0011 1880 ….

    Hello,

I don’t think you can call these 600 numbers from abroad, but it’s worth trying. You would dial 011 56 followed by the number starting with 600.

600 numbers in Chile are special phone numbers charged at local rates when called nationally.

    Hello,

Assuming that the number of digits for the 4 telephone numbers listed above is accurate they do not look like international numbers (too few digits). French phone numbers do use an initial zero when dialed nationally. I’m not sure why you have a double zero for the first 2 numbers. French phone numbers beginning with 9 (after the initial zero) are Voice over IP numbers. Those beginning with 1 are landlines from Paris.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you for you inquiry.

The answer is yes to both your questions.
While traveling outside of France you should call your friend’s mobile phone as if dialing back to France. So, for instance, if you are in Canada you will dial: 011 33 6 xxxx xxxx.

While in France just use the national dialing format: 06 xxxx xxxx. The zero is a “trunk code” used to call nationally.

    Hello.
I guess the easiest way to find out would be to call the number. You have a Nigerian cell phone number (234 is Nigeria’s country code and the remaining digits comprise the actual number). No geographic area codes are used in this country for cellular numbers therefore it is difficult to find its location, let alone its owner.

One word of advice – be careful when dialing unknown numbers.

Here’s a page showing you more about how to call Nigeria:

    Hi Frank,

Cell phone numbers in Europe have a national dialing format (in France they all start with 6). In other words the number could be from any part of France.

    Hello,
This is a number registered in France so you will only have to add 011 to it: 011 33 9775 56xxx.

33 is France’s country code and the remainder is the French phone number.

    I hope this helps.

I apologize for the late reply.
In case you haven’t learned yet – the initial zero in your Israeli fax number should be left out when dialing it from outside Israel. Therefore you should dial 011 972 77-808-38xx.

    I hope this helps.

    Hello,

You can dial the number as is (the initial plus sign must also be dialed and can be dialed using a cell phone device) or you can replace the plus sign with 0011 when calling from Australia. Calling a satellite number is like placing an international call with 870 being the “country code” in this case.

Make sure you know about the costs involved (calling to a satellite phone might be quite expensive).

    Hello,

That looks like a Tunisian cell phone number:
    https://www.howtocallabroad.com/tunisia/

In a second post (not published here yet) you provided a slightly different phone number (26 instead of 216). If the number starts with 26 it’s not a phone number from Tunisia. Let me know which it is.

    Thanks.

    Hi Steve.
Your assumption is correct – adding 001 will work for both texting and calling between US cell phones located in Europe (this goes for contacting the US from Europe as well). Most likely using 00 will present a problem when back in the US. There is an alternative to using 00: the plus sign. So instead of storing 001 in your cell phone memory you may also use +1 which does the same thing. Moreover, +1 might still work when returning to the US.

I will explain this a bit. Adding 001 means you are dialing out of the European country you are in back to the US. The call or text is then redirected to wherever the person you are trying to reach is located. 00 is called an IDD or International Direct Dial code. However, other countries use different IDD codes to dial internationally. The US for example uses 011. The plus sign replaces any IDD code. Of course, using +1 while in the US does not make sense since you are dialing nationally, but many wireless carriers today simply ignore the plus sign in this situation.

    Hello,

Yes, with today’s technology your caller ID is very likely to be identified at the other end of any type of telephone line.

    Hello,

If you are in Italy and you want to call another US person carrying a US cell phone also located in Italy you do not call as if you were in the US. Basically, when traveling abroad your US cell becomes a local phone. So, to call from US cell to US cell you will dial as if calling from Italy to the US: 00 1 xxx xxx xxxx. People from the US can call you as if you were in the US.

    Hello,
For texting use the same dialing sequence we provide for placing telephone calls. You can also use the plus sign to replace the initial 011 code.

    Hi,
This looks like a cell phone number from Ghana, Africa – country code 233 and the remaining digits comprise the actual mobile number. 011 is the code used to dial internationally from the US. More info on how to call Ghana:

To call the US you should either use 00 1 or +1 followed by area code and 7 digit local number.

To reach you while you are abroad people from the US do not have to add any extra international codes to your US number.

Again, Russian cell phone numbers DO NOT use area codes. There is no 15, or 915 code. All cell phone numbers begin with 9, that’s all you need to know. The number you have begins with 9 so it is a cell phone and yes it looks like a legitimate one.
