    I just dialed the number again and it rang fine (a guy answered but I hung up). The recording I heard the first time didn’t say anything about “call can not be completed” although I didn’t pay much attention to what it said.

    Hi,
    I just dialed this number and reached a recorded message. The numbers you are dialing are right. Is this what you experienced, or did your call not connect at all? If the latter try using another line to dial (possibly the line you are using now does not allow international calls).

    If you are overseas with your US cell you will use the dialing procedure used in the country you are in. For example, if you are in Europe you will indeed dial 00 1 + area code + local number. 011 is the international prefix used to call overseas FROM the US.

    This is indeed a strange occurrence. What you can do: when the wrong person answers the phone ask them what their phone number is. Then give this number to the right person and ask them to call the Romanian wireless operator and inquire about this issue. This is likely a problem on their end (Romanian operator).

    Hello,

    If the Blackberry phone is locked with a certain US provider it would need to be unlocked before being used in Europe with a local SIM card. It wouldn’t hurt to ask the customer reps in Spain before buying a new phone. Sure, less fancy phones can be quite cheap in Europe so this will likely be your daughter’s best option. With a prepaid package over there she will get a regular cell number you will be able to call without any problems. Note that you will pay international charges that are higher than what you would pay for calling fixed lines (the good news is that only you, the caller will incur charges). Make sure you know the rates before calling (calling cards are usually the best option when dialing abroad). Your daughter will also be able to call you using her prepaid cell, but rates can be a bit high.

    Here’s what you will dial for calls from the US to Spain and from Spain to the US.

    You must add 0011 in front of 234.

    Hi Marc,

    No, you would dial the way Americans dial an Australian cell: 011 61 41….

    I suppose this is a business you’re calling. The problem is either on their end (they tell you to press 2 for English but do not have yet a recording in English) or it is on your end (for some reason their system does not recognize that you just enter a 2). I would try using another line/phone to dial this call. And yes, this does look like a Thai cell phone ( https://www.howtocallabroad.com/thailand/ ).

    I suppose you mean the person you want to call is in the UK. If so just dial this person’s number as if he were in the US – nothing changes to the way you dial the number.

    Hi David,

    I just called the first number (ending in 51468) and the phone rings fine. Nobody picked up – probably nobody was at home. So are you saying that before the phone rings your call gets some local operator?

    There isn’t a unique European toll free number for Orange. Instead, Orange has national contact phone numbers (including toll free) in each country they offer services in. Orange is now owned by France Telecom ( https://www.orange.com ).

    Hi,
    Your friend should dial +44 7841 as if you were in the UK. You however can make calls to Australian numbers by dialing the way they dial.

    Any number can come after 9?. In many countries including Uzbekistan no area codes are used for cell phone numbers. This is the numbering format for cell phones – they all start with nine followed by 8 digits.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Suzan,

    There are two ways one can call you from a country and show another country’s code:
    1) When one uses a cell phone abroad with a roaming agreement (so if your friend travels to Portugal with his German cell phone, calls made would show a Germany caller ID);
    2) There are many VoIP services today that allow users from a certain region/country to register phone numbers belonging to another region/country (for example you could be in Paris but all your friends are in New York – if you register a New York number with a VoIP company all your friends from New York will be able to call you local although you are abroad).

    Anyway, this number doesn’t look like a German cell so only the second situation may apply.

    Although this depends on the service used to place the call, the answer is yes, calls to Guam are in most cases charged international calls.

    Not sure what an in-country phone is, but it shouldn’t cost them anything to receive your call.

    Hello,

    So were you able to call him while he was in the UK? If the number is registered in the UK like you said and he traveled to Greece with roaming on his cell you have been dialing the right numbers. If you could call him while he was in the UK and now you can no longer call him it means that there’s a problem on his end: either he has no roaming service for Greece or he is in an area with no coverage. If you want I can try dialing this number for you to see if it rings.

    Hello Ibrahim,
    On https://www.howtocallabroad.com/germany/ we list some German phone books. However, cell phone numbers are generally not listed so it will be hard to find the number you’re looking for.

    Hi Dennis,

    There can be two reasons why your text messages don’t go through:
    1. An incompatibility between the two wireless networks for text messages;
    2. It is possible that your wireless plan does not allow international texting.

    Call your provider to inquire about this. As for using 00 or the plus sign – both should work.
